A deep dive into the archives

I got an email yesterday from a friend and fellow corporate law professor, who asked:

You used to have a post on your free blog on independent contractors vs. employees. I do subscribe (I pay!) to your substack but it's not in the archives for that. I presume you have the old post? If so, could you send it to me?

Thank you to all of my subscribers!!! If you haven't subscribed to my page, now would be a good time!

So, I dug into the archives and found several candidates for the post in question. Cleaned them up (exporting the blog from TypePad to Word was messy) and was about to send them off. But then, I thought my current readers might also be interested. So, I reprint the posts here with only minor editing for typos and the like. Although the old blog’s archives are not on line, since the original posts were free, I offer them here with a freewall but not a paywall.
